Life in His Eyes

Being in a new place would awe you to the new people and the environment you are in. It's been great to actually learn new things at the same time liking what you are doing despite the schedule and the pressure. More so, with the new environment comes along this person I notice to be sleeping just around the vicinity and have nothing else to wear except his rugged clothes and dirty look. Yes, he is a beggar and to make it all not a bearable sight, he happen to have a mental illness.






Passing by him while he is asleep during the night as we have our break, he appears to be contented with what he have. Every night I can see him with no blanket or a bed. Only the feeling of the cold floor giving him his comfort. To him this is his bed, just beside the bank. No one dare to shoo him away from there despite the number of guards roaming around the vicinity.

I happen not to care much about him, but when my colleagues told me about how rich and contented he is, I tend to get curious. His way of living is just by begging from others and cleaning cars and helping other people get a parking space. He has no house to pay a rent for, no bills to worry about and only to feed himself. With that and with the life he has, come to think of it, financially, he is actually richer than I am.

My colleagues told me about how much money he has and how he brag about it as he holds it firmly in his hands. He pays what he eats at the "carenderia" getting a roll of 20 bucks on his pocket and another roll of a hundreds and 500's on the other pocket. I didn't actually believe them. But when I saw him by my own eyes, that worries me more than I thought I would be.

Within the vicinity, he is protected, with the guards in almost every corner. But what if one of these days someone would do him harm, get his money or worst, might kill him. Remember he has a mental illness.

As I have observed, life for him is simple. Eat, sleep, walk around and do the daily things he does. He has nothing to spend all his money to and he has to keep it for himself.

See, the guy is even richer than I am. Coz when I actually checked my wallet, all I have is a 40 bucks just enough for me to get home and he has more than 1 roll of 20's 100's and 500's. Don't believe me? I don't want to dare you, I'm still worried about him and don't want you guys to see him. I just want to share.

Still, I wish him his happiness and even greater richness. Rich in love, security and care from his family.
