Graduates Worries

It's March and all I see and hear are stories of students on their graduation day and the awards they have received.

Being able to graduate from school is what every parents had wished for their child. It's what they say the only treasure they could give. As a graduate, how good is the feeling that after all these years you were able to reap the fruits of your sacrifices and eventually "made it" to your graduation day. But beware, graduation is just the beginning entering another world, the world of reality.

When I was in high school and college, all I see are girls in the comfort room piling up in front of the mirror taking most of their time putting on make up and those blushes on. The usual chit chats and hang outs at the mall with few things to worry. That is, to pass the exam, accomplish an assignment (or rather accomplish copying another classmate's assignment, though not all), and just make sure you attend your classes on time. That however is an example of a good student.

After graduation, you celebrate, after the celebration, your mom eventually expects you to find a job! And you said, "WWhhaT? I think I need some time off for myself!" oh yeah, I experienced that before! Yet, here comes the bigger challenge, good for you if you have good credentials and able to find an employer right away. But what if, with so many graduates and so many competition in the market, even if you have good grades, it would still take some time before you actually get hired.. Uurrgh, again, been there.

If you were to ask me, in the Nursing profession, after graduation, we have to take the exam to become registered Nurse. After that, we apply for a job, we get a call expecting for an interview right away, yet only to get informed that we still have to undergo training, BY WHICH, we PAY the HOSPITAL for that training. Good if the training would happen next week but what happens mostly, with the list of applicants they have, your scheduled training would then occur 6 months or more depending on their list! And heck, after the training, you're not certain if you get hired!

Anyway, that's just one fact about us Nurses. I don't know well about the other professions. Still, here lies the sad truth that with so many graduates and few job opportunities, I could not wonder why most people opt to go abroad. 'Coz even if these graduates get hired, if the rate is not well compensated with the workload, it still becomes a factor for other options.

Oh well, all I can say is GOOD LUCK to all of us.
