Kids and Games these Days

As a kid, I use to play "patentero", "taguan" (hide and seek), "habulan", "verus", the game "P.S, P.S. I Love You, got from movie popularized by Sharon and Gabby (P.S. I love You, I even wonder how children came up with that kind of game before). Anyway, during my childhood, the kind of games we usually play were outdoors, mind and body activities. of course aside from the "bahay-bahayan", I often go out with my friends and play somewhere else.

Maybe you could brand me the word "lakwatsera", but as a kid, playgrounds seemed enticing. Even during my elementary years, we would do those games which would really make my mom worry! (not to mention cave hunting, tree climbing, and other games boys and girls like).

The childhood I had was really fun and worth remembering playing leader and follower with the other kids reflects in the kind of games we play. Play says a lot in determining the kind of personality each kid has. Moreover, it develops the leadership in an individual.

I could definitely say and just wish kids nowadays would still learn how to play those outdoor games we once had. I asked my 8 year old niece if he knows how to play the "patentero" and "tumbang preso/ tumba lata", and he said no. It was ok but what disappoints me most is when I introduce to him those games, he doesn't seemed to care, rather would like to sit down in front of the computer and play online games.

As an adult, it is our responsibility to teach and guide them but it is still their preference if they want to be solitary or to be in a group. Maybe if they'll realize the fun to those games, they'll love it just like the way I did before.

I think that it is so important for kids to play outside! You know how good you feel when you take a walk in the park, or a bike ride on a forest trail. Kids and people alike need to reconnect to nature.

@Gamers WeBlog: Exactly my point. Adults have the responsibility to show little kids the things that needs to be learned.

I would like to see names rather than "anonymous". You can click on name/url and just leave the url blank if you don't have one. I would just want to give credit to anyone visiting my site and leaving comments. Thanks a bunch!
